The HTC Legend Is A Legend Of Its Time

Posted in September 1st, 2010
by James Sampson

Any smartphone which calls itself Legend is bound to generate a lot of interest among the masses. In case of the HTC Legend, however, people were more interested to know how different this phone would be from the HTC Hero. The good news is that, this phone is unique in more ways than it is similar to the said model.

The USP of the Legend is that it is the first product from HTC which has Android 2.1 and Sense UI. But, before you get to know that, be prepared to be floored by the awesome aluminum chassis and the 3.2″ OLED screen.

Smartphones are generally not known for their toughness, but this one is and it can survive a bang on wall (as demonstrated during its launch)! However, the aluminum surface can be a bit of a scratch-magnet and you will do well to use a cover or case for protecting it.

Going on to the screen, you may find that it’s appearing larger than the actual 3.2″ dimension, mainly because the bezel has been reduced in a clever design move. The OLED display is capable of amazing color reproduction and maintaining great contrast ratio without the need for backlight.

Under the hood, the HTC Legend has a 600 MHz processor, which you may think is a tad less for a smartphone, but you will be surprised at the rate in which you can perform various tasks at great pace.

You now have seven customizable home screens to play with, thanks to Sense UI. Add and remove widgets to customize them and view the screens all at once if you want.

Video capture and playback is good, though not in 720p (HD) as some may have hoped for.

Whether it becomes a legend or not, is something only time will tell, but right now the HTC Legend has the looks and performance to rock you!

iPhone Docks: 3 Main Kinds

An iPhone charging dock such as the Powermat Charging Dock for Apple iPhone’s and Apple iPod’s are probably the least costly types of docking stations. A common element with pretty much all iPhone docks in fact is that they charge your phone while they are placed on them. They are usually made from plastic stands that you basically just sit your phone on to charge.

One advantage of these types of docks is that you can have your phone standing up next to you while your sleeping for example and it is still charging. You may even prefer to use it at your desk while your working too. It is way better than only being able to plug the phone directly into the wall you know?

The next main type of docking station for iPhone is the sound station dock. These type of docks work similar to the charging docks, where you simply place your phone onto them, however with a huge key difference: they will play your music via the iPod function on your iPhone.

Many have extremely high quality speaker sound that can equal or best even state of the art entertainment systems. It’s not just music you can play on these but movie and audio book sound as well. Most are small enough that you could even pack them in a suitcase if you wanted or needed to.

An alarm clock iPhone dock is the last type we will discuss. Similar to the options discussed above, with this version you put your iPhone on the charging dock, play music via your iPod on the speakers, however this model allows you wake up to music as well! You can absolutely wake up to whatever type of music you choose, because it is YOUR music. In most cases, you have to give a little to get a little, and this one is no different as the speakers for these iPhone docks are generally pretty average.

Sound docking stations as well as the docks with alarm clocks almost all have remote controls. These come standard so that you can easily change through the songs in your library without having to be right next to your phone. One thing you may want to be careful of though is having a remote controlled alarm clock docking station may be a bad idea though if you love to press the snooze button!

These days there is no end to the smartness of smartphones! Look no further than the HTC Desire for confirming this fact. This android powered phone is more powerful than any of its predecessors from the HTC stables. A closer look at the phone will tell you how good it really is.

The first thing that you notice about this phone is the huge 3.7″ OLED screen, fitted in a body which cannot be called bulky by any standards. In fact the phone is really slim, with dimensions of 119x60x11.9 mm and a weight of just 133g. So, it fits right in your pocket!

The curved chassis makes for a good grip and good handling. There are only six buttons in all, in this phone, with four of them below the screen. These are the home, menu, optical track-pad and back and search (one) buttons. The rest of the phone is touch operated.

There are seven home screens, which you can customize by placing the widgets you want. HTC has added some useful widgets such as the Friendstream (links to Facebook, Twitter data), in addition to standard Android widgets.

Live Wallpapers add a bit of zing to the HTC Desire. These react to touch or music and change appearance.

Contacts are easy to manage and you get one-touch access to all your contacts, whenever you need to make a call or send messages. Typing is a breeze too, thanks mainly to the large screen on which the touch-keypad appears.

Due to upgrading of the Android browser done prior to the launch of the Desire, you can now use pinch and zoom features while browsing. Viewing video-streaming sites such as YouTube is really easy too.

The HTC Desire has certainly lived up to its billing and can be any smartphone lover’s delight!
